Rugby State Natural AreaThis is a 700 acre natural area in and adjacent to the village of Historic Rugby in Morgan County on the Cumberland Plateau. A great place for Hiking, Botanizing, and Birding, the forest includes tulip poplar, red maple, and sourwood with northern red oak, white oak, and hickories, as well as several streams flowing throughout the area.
Big South Fork National River and Recreation AreaThe Big South Fork National River and Recreation area boasts miles of scenic gorges and sandstone bluffs and provides visitors with wide range of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, camping, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, paddling,and horseback riding.
Colditz Cove State Natural AreaDroping over 60 feet from a rock ledge, Northrup Falls of Colditz Cove State Natural Area is one of the most photogenic waterfalls of the Cumberland Plateau. It flows through a scenic narrow gorge along Big Branch Creek amidst some of the largest old growth stands of hemlock and white pines that can be seen in the plateau region.
Meadow Creek WoodsMeadow Creek Woods consists of 1743 privately owned acres of Cumberland Plateau lands in their natural state. A variety of terrain provides an adventurous environment for exploration.
Cane Creek ParkThis urban park offers excellent opportunities for watching wildlif A 2+ mile walking trail weaves through the northern edge of this 256-acre park, traversing very nice upland and bottomland hardwoods, a native meadow/prairie, and a fairly large lake that is often home to waterfowl.
Cummins Falls State ParkCummins Falls was recently dedicated as the 54th State Park in Tennessee. It cascades 50 feet into one of the best swimming holes in the southeast. The hiking to the base of the falls was previously quite risky and mostly accessible to a younger more adventurous crowd, but work is currenlty underway to make this swimming hole and the falls accessible to all.
Standing Stone Forest and State ParkThis quaint and rustic park is noted for its outstanding scenery, spring wildflowers, fossils and other natural diversity.
Washmorgan Hollow State Natural AreaDesignated a Class II State Natural-Scientific Natural Area, Washmorgan Hollow is a 73-acre reserve owned by the Tennessee Nature Conservancy. The narrow ravine on the south side of the Roaring River State Scenic River provides an excellent opportunity to observe the diverse flora and fauna of the Eastern Highland Rim.
Roaring River ParkThe Roaring River Recreation Area has over 12,000 acres owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is a great place for hiking, swimming, boating, hunting, and fishing. The park is located on the Cordell Hull Lake, named after the famous Father of the United Nations that was born and raised nearby.
Pickett State Park Situated in a remote section of the northern Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee, Pickett CCC Memorial State Park is known for its geological, botanical, and scenic wonders.
